I've always had a sort of interest in photography. I remember as a kid that I always wanted a 'real' camera. I started out with a point and shoot like most people but I never really got serious about photography with a point and shoot, I never really learned much about photography, and I never really looked at things in an artistic way.

Then in August of 2006 my mother remarried, and at the wedding my sister, who is a professional photographer, let me use her Nikon N75, and I went through over 10 rolls of film. After that I borrowed the camera and spent my lifes savings on film and developing. I had a blast! That christmas my family got together to get a birthday/christmas present and I got my Nikon D50 which I still use today.

I've only gotten better since those first few days of film photography. I've spent a large amount of time learning how to operate the camera, learning about lighting and composition, and I've had some great people to help me out and critique me along the way.

In 2007 I competed in the Skills USA Local and Regional competitions and got first place. I moved on to States and placed third. A great accomplishment for only having been photographing for a year. This year, 2008, I went back to states and placed first. The week of June 23rd, 2008, I attended a week long competition featuring the best photographer from each state at the SkillsUSA National competition and placed First in the Nation. You can find a recap of the week here.

In January of 2007 I became a member of the West Fort Ann Volunteer Fire Company and proceeded to get my Firefighter 1 certification. I am Class A Interior firefighter. Those crazy people you see running into burning buildings; yeah that's me. I love doing what I do and I love helping the community. It also makes for some very awesome photos.

In late 2007 I applied, visited, and was accepted to the Hallmark Institute of Photography. I've also applied for, been accepted to, and am currently working out financing for the Center for Digital Imaging Arts at Boston University.
